Rating: ★★★★☆ (4 out of 5 stars)
I was finally able to sit-down at the highly rated breakfast spot, Moksha Caffe, or simply referred to as ‘Moksha’ by the locals AND big sign above the door. Just at the bottom of Trafalgar St and on ya’ left, keep walking until you see the arse end of a queue sticking out the door, because they don’t let breakfast adventurers’ queue inside… but don’t worry – it moves quick!
I’d tried getting in once before on one particularly drizzly Sunday, slightly hungover and with a rumbling belly – on said occasion I did give up and settle for a forgettable greasy spoon up the road. However, I was back with a vengeance and lots of patience… Only to be pleasantly surprised by the short 5-minute wait, though we were only a table for 2.

The Menu 📖
Take a look at the breakfast menu yourself, lots of enticing options for pretty much everyone, including veggies and it’s nice to see a breakfast menu that doesn’t shy away from spice.
I was fighting myself on whether to get the chilli eggs, brunch burger or Turkish eggs and ended up going for the latter, telling myself: “I’ll have a grown-up breakfast this time and the brunch burger next time”.
The star of the show: Homemade hash browns ✨

I’ll let you in on a little secret – The hash browns at Moksha have a bit of a reputation among the locals and it was this tid-bit that brought me here, and they did not disappoint! Luckily for me, my partner had the foresight to order a side of her own which meant I got to enjoy them twice.
A satisfying crunch, not drenched in oil, these bad boys were fluffy inside and nicely seasoned. Carbohydrate bites of heaven.
As I chomped on the last remnants of hash brown I started daydreaming… Next time I come here it will be by bicycle, I’d have my life together and order only a perfect side of hash browns and espresso, I’d sit alfresco and read. Though in reality I know I’ll be getting the disgusting sounding brunch burger, but you get what I mean.
Plate 1, Turkish Eggs 🥚

Greek garlic yoghurt, Kalamata olives, sun blushed tomatoes, poached eggs, Aleppo chilli butter and a homemade pitta bread.
How’d you like your eggs? Turkish wouldn’t be my first answer but turns out it was pretty good. As someone whose belly takes a partial liking to the Mediterranean flavours, this was right up my street. A hefty portion of worldly looking ingredients arrived at the table which made me feel +5% more cultured once it landed. The leafy greens were a nice touch, then you notice the edible flowers and it gives you a wee smile, but not enough to show it and lose your cool in the restaurant.
It was a nice meal, I liked it, enjoyed it, sure. But golly there was a lot of Greek yoghurt on the plate, it was a great garlicy vehicle for other flavours flying about, you could even say that the chilli butter and runny eggs were in cahoots with the yoghurt for much of the time – but the yoghurt ratio was a little whacky.
Want to know about the dippy bread? I can’t tell you much about it because it was great and it lasted two seconds, but what I can tell you is that it was NICE and worked well to do some mopping up.
Plate 2, Chilli Scramble 🌶️

Scrambled eggs with feta, cherry tomatoes, homemade chilli jam, pickled chillies, crispy onions and coriander on sourdough.
Then arrives a much humbler looking portion compared to its Mediterranean neighbour yonder the table, which we ultimately agreed was a good portion size.
The sourdough was nice, there was a good flavour mix between the eggs, chilli jam and feta cheese. Some of you who may be living in fear of spicy foods may be hesitant to order this one from the menu, but fret not. The chilli jam is sweet and well balanced. This dish is very much about the scrambled egg on toast, but there are some friends on the plate to give it a bit of oomph.
I’d order it again and wouldn’t change much at all, the eggs were slightly soft for personal preference, but that’s subjective. If you like fluffy eggs and fun flavours, this one’s for you.
